Fifty years in one house doesn’t fit in one apartment. We help choose what comes along.
Moving a parent to assisted living — or helping them “rightsize” into something smaller — is emotional work disguised as a moving project. We do the sorting, hauling, and donating so your family can spend the energy where it belongs: on each other.
The golden rule: the senior stays in charge
The fastest way to make a downsizing miserable is to make decisions for the person moving. So we don’t. When Mom is part of the process, Mom holds the clipboard. We work at her pace, take breaks when the stories start (the stories are the good part), and never pressure anyone to part with anything.
Here’s the sorting system that keeps it simple — four destinations, one pass through the house:
- Comes along: what fits and belongs in the new place — we can measure the new apartment first so the furniture choices are realistic
- Goes to family: tagged, photographed, and set aside for kids and grandkids — we can even box and stage items for pickup or shipping
- Donated: to Valley charities, with receipts — many seniors love knowing the sewing machine or the tools will actually get used
- Let go: the worn-out remainder, hauled and gone without a second thought
After the move: the rest of the house
Once the important things are safely in the new place, the original home usually needs to be emptied for sale or for the landlord. That’s our home turf — the same crew rolls straight into a full estate cleanout, and the house goes on the market broom-clean.
“Dad supervised the whole thing from his recliner, told stories about half the garage, and still made his tee time. The house was empty a week after he moved. He calls it ‘the easiest hard thing we ever did.’”
Make the move gentler.
Tell us about the move — where from, where to, and when. We’ll walk the house free and put a plan and a price in writing.
